Rules for Sacrifice on Eid ul Adha
Rules for Sacrifice on Eid ul Adha must be followed by every Muslim. Muslims celebrate
two days in a year as their religious festivals. One is the day of Eid ul Fitr
and second Eid ul Adha. Eid ul Fitr comes after the holy month of Ramadan and
Eid ul Adha comes after the great pilgrimage of Hajj. Eid ul Adha is also the day of sacrifice for
Muslims. Muslims revive the Sunnah of their father Hazrat Ibrahim and slaughter
animals in the way of Allah. Muslims spend their whole life is according to
the laws of the Quran and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet. That’s why Muslims must be
followed the following Rules for sacrifice on Eid ul Adha.
1 The Person Must Be Sensible.
The person who slaughters an
animal must be sensible. The sacrifice of an insane and drunk person is not
valid and not acceptable by Allah.
2 The intention of a person is to slaughter the animal.
The other important condition
for slaughtering an animal is that the intention to
slaughter. The Quran says إنما الأعمال بالنيات”.
if the animal is not intended to be slaughtered, that sacrifice is not halal.
3 The animal should be Sacrifice for the name of Allah.
Whenever we slaughter an animal,
even other then Eid ul Adha, we should always slaughter these animals for the
name of Allah. If any person slaughters the animal other then the name of Allah,
like (idol, grave) then such an animal will become unlawful.
Allah said in Quran: Dead and blood are forbidden to you ......... and animals
slaughtered in places of worship are also forbidden to you. (Surat al-Ma'ida,
verse no. 03)
The Prophet
Muhammad also said that: لَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ ذَبَحَ
لِغَيْرِ اللهِ,
Allah curses the person who
slaughtered the animal for other than Allah. (Sahih Muslim, Hadith No. 1978)
4 The person who slaughters the animal must say Takbeer (the name of Allah)
At the time of slaughter, it
is compulsory for the person who slaughters an animal call the name of Allah while running a knife over its neck. Allah said: فَكُلُوا مِمَّا ذُكِرَ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ
بِآياتِهِ مُؤْمِنِينَ۔
If you are a believer, eat the animal on which the name of Allah has
been mentioned. (Surat al-An'am: 118). It is necessary for a person to
recite the name of Allah while slaughtering an animal.
5 Slaughter the animal with sharp tools
The use of
sharp tools are also one of the main conditions for slaughtering an animal. If any person kills an animal with something other then sharp tools, like, strangulation, electrocution, or a head injury, the slaughter
of such a person would not be halal.
6 The animal must be in Good Condition
The animals who are sacrificed on Eid ul Adha must be in a good condition and must attain the age of sacrifice according to the Sharia. In the case of female animals, it is necessary to check the pregnancy of that animal. if a female animal is pregnant then it will not be eligible for sacrifice.
7 Slaughtering an animal who is religiously permitted.
If an animal is not allowed to be slaughtered according to the shari'ah it will clearly haram in Islam. But in some conditions
halal animals also prohibited to be slaughtered.
- Hunting in Masjid al-Haram,
- In-state of Ihram
- Stolen or snatched animal.
As if that animal was stolen, or someone snatched that animal
from someone. The scholars differ on this point. According to one point of view, such an animal is halal. According to another group, such an animal is haraam.

With the blessing of Allah, we've mentioned the Rules for sacrifice on Eid ul Adha within the light of the Qur'an
and Hadith. May Allah always help us to follow the proper path and help us to measure consistent with our religion of
